About
Hello, and welcome to my portfolio! I am Srikkanth Sundaram, a Master's student in Human-Computer Interaction at University College Dublin. My journey is driven by a strong passion for research, specifically in exploring how interactive media, including video games, can influence user behavior and emotions. I am eager to continue this exploration through a PhD, where I aim to contribute to the fields of Human-Computer Interaction and game studies.
Academic and Research Journey
With a background in Programming, UX design, game development, and research, I have a strong foundation in understanding user behaviours, cognitive science, and interactive media. My academic experience and research has allowed me to focus on the intersection of user experience design and game design, where I explore how digital environments shape emotional and behavioral responses.
During my Master's, I conducted a thesis on emotion-inducing video game elements and their effects on player behavior, using both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies. This research experience has further deepened my interest in how interactive digital spaces can be used to educate, engage, and influence users' well-being. This is a key focus that I hope to expand in my PhD research, exploring the potential of video games to promote cultural education, social cohesion, and tackle ingrained biases.
My Research Philisophy
I believe that research must be grounded in both rigorous scientific methods and a genuine curiosity about human behavior. My approach is to combine empirical research with creative design processes, ensuring that my work not only contributes to knowledge but also offers practical solutions. I am particularly interested in exploring how digital environments particularly video games, can create immersive, impactful experiences that resonate with users on an emotional and cognitive level.

Research Interests
My primary research interest lies in the psychological and emotional impact of interactive digital media, particularly video games. I aim to explore how game design can be used to foster cultural education, challenge societal biases, and promote mental well-being. In my future research, I aim to explore how we can design digital experiences that encourage inclusivity, emotional resilience, and a deeper understanding of diverse cultures.
What drives me?
I have a passion for video games and interactive media, which drives my research goals. I am motivated by the potential of games to not only entertain but to educate and influence positive social change. I aim to pursue a PhD, where I aim to bridge the gap between academic research and practical game design, contributing to projects that use digital media to make a meaningful impact on users and society as a whole.
